YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 23-year-old Paramus man became combative, kicking officers and resisting arrest, after they found him parked outside a local hotel, the smell of burnt marijuana coming from his car, Ramsey police said.
Sgt. Michael Parise was patrolling the parking lot of the Best Western on southbound Route 17 Sunday night when he spotted Daniel Akdemir in the driver’s seat of a white sedan with its passenger side windows down, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this morning.
Backups arrived and Akdemir “became increasingly irate with the investigating officers,” Gurney said. “There was also an odor of burnt marijuana emanting from the passenger compartment.”
A Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 was summoned, making Akdemir “more irate,” the chief said, adding that Akdemir “resisted arrest and kicked the officers.”
A warranted search turned up a small amount of marijuana in a console cup holder, he added.
Akdemir remained held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail this morning, charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. An April 15 Municipal Court date was set.
