MAHWAH, N.J. -- The Center for Food Action in Mahwah got thousands of dollars worth of turkeys, soup and more for families in need, thanks to township police, the Mahwah Municipal Alliance and Inserra Supermarkets.
PBA Local #143 and its department colleagues set up a collection site at headquarters to collect turkeys, canned goods, stuffing and all the other ingredients necessary for a Thanksgiving dinner over three days.
"Residents did not disappoint," Police Chief James N. Batelli said Monday.
The PBA got together with Shoprite and Blackman Plumbing Supply and delivered $5,000 worth of turkeys and $250 of canned soup this past Saturday.
Lt. Phillip Tangel spoke of the importance of officers "giving back to the community they serve, especially during the holiday season. It was a collaborative effort between law enforcement, residents and the business community."
The Mahwah Municipal Alliance also collected goods for the center.
