UPDATE: A man who shot and killed himself after a police chase following a Rockland County bank robbery Thursday may have held up a Capital One branch in Ramsey on Feb. 18, as police said Friday, but there are also striking similarities to a Key Bank robbery in Suffern last December. CLICK HERE

The area around a shopping center on North Franklin Turnpike and Spring Street in Ramsey was cordoned off with crime scene tape, an employee at a store there told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

She said the shooting apparently happened a block away.

Police from Mahwah began chasing the suspect’s Honda CRV after the M&T Bank on Route 59 in the Rockland County village of Airmont was held up around 6:30 p.m. They surrounded the car, pointing their firearms. A single shot was heard from inside, a witness said.

While administering CPR, officers called for a Medivac helicopter. The suspect was later pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, Gurney told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
