MAHWAH, N.J. -- An 18-year-old Brick Township man had his leg amputated from the knee down after being struck by a pickup truck as he tried to cross Route 17 in Mahwah Sunday night, police told Daily Voice Monday morning.
Jason Criscuolo remained at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson this morning after being flown there by AirMed One out of Hackensack University Medical Center from the scene, Police Chief James Batelli said.
Witnesses called police after he was struck around 7:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes near McDonald's, Lt. Scott Cherven said.
Mahwah police, fire and EMS units responded.
Firefighters and New Jersey DOT workers diverted traffic on Route 17, which remained closed for three hours.
The 43-year-old driver from Franklin Lakes wasn't injured, remained at the scene and was cooperative, police said. CHECK BACK FOR MORE DETAILS THIS AFTERNOON
