MAHWAH, N.J. -- Registration for the The Junior Race Program at Mahwah's Campgaw Mountain is now open.
The Junior race is entry level race training for younger athletes ages 8 to 13 or those interested in becoming racers. It is designed for skiers and snowboarders at an advanced skill level that wish to learn to race.
The athletes will train and compete while developing strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, balance, speed, and endurance. Race coaches emphasize tactics, techniques, and the intense training of ski racing. Athletes may train in Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Athletes must be able to ski or ride the whole mountain and ride the chairlift without assistance.
The program will begin on or near Saturday, Dec. 26 and will run through the beginning of March. Weekday practices are scheduled to begin on Jan. 5.
Weekend practices will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Weekday practices will be Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Athletes must arrive ready to participate 15 minutes prior to start time.
Each ski and snowboard racer must have a USSA certified race helmet, skis/snowboard, poles and goggles.
