RAMSEY, N.J. — Don Bosco graduate and last year's offensive coordinator Mike Teel is replacing the longtime varsity football coach Greg Toal, who retired after 17 years effective Thursday, the school announced.

Toal joined Don Bosco Prep as head football coach of the Ironmen in 1999, and immediately focused on improving the conditioning of the players by instituting workout schedules to strengthen their skills and endurance.

By the end of the season, the Ironmen were undefeated on their home turf, Granatell Stadium. From 1999 to 2016, the Ironmen went on to win nine State Championships, and two mythical National Championships in 2009 and 2011.

Toal earned his 300th career coaching victory in 2016, when Don Bosco Prep defeated DePaul Catholic High school in a 35 to 21 victory in October 2016.

Teel, 31 of Oakland, played college football for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights before he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Many graduates of the Don Bosco Prep football program under Greg Toal went on to successful professional careers including Leonte Carroo (Miami), Patrick Murray (Tampa, Cleveland), Justin Trattou (New York Giants, Minneapolis) Matt Simms (Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets), Corey Wooten (Chicago, Minneapolis), Ryan Grant (Green Bay, Washington).
