MAHWAH, N.J. – A special guest will be on hand at Ramapo College of New Jersey this week.
Jose L. Linares, U.S. District Judge for the District of New Jersey, is scheduled to be a guest speaker on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The program, which begins at 1 p.m. is free and open to the public.
Linares is slated to discuss his career in law and his time as a judge, and will also field questions.
Linares is a judge at the Federal Courthouse in Newark, and is the first Hispanic to hold the position. Born in Havana, Cuba, he and his family escaped to the United States in 1965 when he was 12.
Linares, also an adjunct professor at Seton Hall Law School, dedicates time to civic related activities and volunteer youth groups, and mentors young people considering careers in law.
The event will be held at Friends Hall, on the campus at 505 Ramapo Valley Road.
