Their long search ended quickly once they visited a house in Rio Vista Estates in the township.

“When we were looking at the area, my kids said to me, ‘Is this a vacation home?’” Smith recalled.

Now, about a year and a half after closing on their home, Smith said: “It is just a really fun place to be living your life.”

Smith, who lived in Suffern before moving to Mahwah, said there is a park, ski area and basketball courts around the corner, and a pool and hiking trails for her family to enjoy.

“It was very quick for us to just kind of fall into place here,” she said.

Smith lives in a five bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom home with her husband, father and three children.

Rio Vista Estates is situated on more than 450 acres of park-like land and features 305 custom-built private homes, 62 detached town homes and 92 condominiums, according to Special Properties Real Estate Services, which has experience selling homes in the community.
