The $1,500 scholarships are given to two Wyckoff High School seniors who exhibit volunteerism through community service.
Hannon joined the Wyckoff Fire Department in 1990, following in the footsteps of his father , Thomas, who served the department for 40 years.
He worked his way up to the Bridgeport Fire Department in Connecticut in 1998. In 2000, he received the Medal of Valor after helping rescue an unconscious woman from an apartment engulfed in flames.
In February of 2000, Hannon graduated from the New York City Fire Academy. He was assigned to Ladder 34 in Washington Heights but was on rotation to Engine 26 in midtown Manhattan on September 11, 2001.
Hannon's body was never recovered from the wreckage. He was 29 years old and two-months engaged to his fiance Allison Dansen when he was killed.
Shortly after, Hannon's sister Kyle Bickford created the Dana Hannon Scholarship Fund.
"Any amount of money raised for the scholarship is wonderful, but I would be lying if I didn't say my real goal is to have people remember," Bickford told Daily Voice. "I want people to remember Dana and all the other people killed that day and to remember the way the nation came together."
The Dana Hannon Scholarship fund is accepting orders for t-shirts through June 10.
