Wayne PD: Video In Large Jewelry, Coin Haul Leads To Career Burglar

WAYNE, N.J. -- Surveillance video distributed by Wayne police led to the arrest of a career burglar paroled only two months ago -- after 12 years in state prison -- charged with stealing a large amount of jewelry and U.S. currency coins from a local resident.

Samuel Krosky, 57 -- convicted two decades ago for 40 break-ins in five counties -- was nabbed as he tried to get into his car on Newark's Washington Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Capt. Laurence Martin said Wednesday.

Making the arrest were Special Operations Detectives Paul Kindler, Adult Crimes Sqd. Detective Sgt. Scott Rappaport and lead case Detective William Jurewicz, the captain said.

Krosky forced his way into a house in the 100 block of Webster Drive between 7 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. last Saturday and was gone with the goods about 10 minutes later, Martin said.

Hoping someone would recognize him, the captain released a trio of videos earlier this week that did the trick.

"This capture resulted from the valuable assistance of the print and television media, which allowed the Wayne Police Department to zero in on" the 6-foot-2-inch, 200-pound Krosky, he said.

The homeowner's video "resulted in numerous phone calls and tips identifying suspects and, ultimately, Krosky," the captain said.

Also known as Samuel -- or Sam -- Buccino, Krosky was sentenced to consecutive sentences in March 2005 for dozens of burglaries in Essex, Middlesex, Morris, and Union counties, as well as in Wayne, on Hubbardton Drive, records show.
