Tractor-Trailer Crash On Routes 17/287 In Mahwah Sends Two To Hospital

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Two victims were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center following a crash involving a tractor-trailer and four other vehicles Friday afternoon where Routes 17 and 287 split in Mahwah, police told Daily Voice.

The tractor-trailer was removed but two vehicles remained at the scene awaiting tow trucks as of 4 p.m., police said.

Two advanced life support units and a pediatric emergency crew were among six ambulances initially requested following the pileup, which occurred just after 2:30 p.m., Police Chief James Batelli said.

A doctor also was on scene, he said.

Unconfirmed reports were that the ALS requests were later cancelled.

Although two lanes initially were open, traffic was backed up for miles.
