Carl Jones, 47, faces a minimum of 30 years in state prison – and a possible lifetime sentence -- after jurors convicted him last week of murder, burglary and theft.
Superior Court Judge Scott J. Bennion scheduled sentencing for Aug. 25. Jones will remain held in the Passaic County Jail until then.
The victim, 29-year-old Timothy Linnartz, was squatting with Jones in an abandoned factory at 49-55 Governor St. when Jones attacked him out back in late August 2013, authorities said.
After bludgeoning Linnartz, Jones broke into his car, took the radio and tools, then stole the vehicle itself, prosecutors proved.
A co-defendant, Christopher Daut, testified against Jones after pleading guilty to burglary and endangering an injured victim.
Prosecutors will ask a judge for a six-year term for Daut at a scheduled Aug. 11 sentencing, Passaic County Prosecutor Camela Valdes said Tuesday.
Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor Peter Foy handled the case.
