The girl's father was picking her up in his car on Aspen Court around 9 p.m. Sunday when 43-year-old William Almonte got into his 2016 Ford Mustang, put it in reverse and hit the teenager in his driveway, Police Chief James Batelli said.

He then took off.

Mahwah Ambulance Corps members and paramedics responded and treated the girl, who was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Almonte, meanwhile, was charged with:

  • Assault with a motor vehicle;
  • Driving while intoxicated;
  • Reckless driving;
  • Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

He was released pending a court hearing.

Officer Thomas Mitchell and Detective Michael Grassi of the Accident Investigation Unit are handling the case.
