MAHWAH, N.J. -- A brush fire that spread more than five acres on the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah was brought under control Monday afternoon by the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service with help from helicopters and local firefighters.

Tbe service used helicopter water drops at the site, beyond Upper Lake by the Yellow-Silver Trail, after the blaze was initially reported at 2:43 p.m.

Mahwah and Ramsey firefighters and Mahwah police joined in all-terrain vehicles. Hillburn firefighters provided mutual aid.

State authorities released the local units a little under two hours after the initial call.
