Dumont SUV Driver Killed In Freight Train Crash

DUMONT, N.J. -- A 54-year-old Dumont man died after an SUV he was driving was struck by a freight train Saturday morning.

The southbound CSX train hit the vehicle at Columbia and Cortland avenues in Dumont around 8:30 a.m. and pushed it a short distance across the Bergenfield border before the SUV slid off the tracks.

The victim was later pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.
