Driver, 27, Injured After Car Splits Mahwah Utility Pole

MAHWAH, N.J. -- His airbag injured a 27-year-old driver's face Tuesday afternoon when his car slammed into a utility pole in Mahwah, cracking it in half, police said.

Darlington Avenue was closed between MacArthur Boulevard and Campgaw Road while Orange & Rockland repaired the damage.

Mahwah EMS took the Bloomingdale driver to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for evaluation after the 3:30 p.m. crash on Darlington Avenue, Police Chief James Batelli said.

He also received a careless driving summons, the chief said.

Township firefighters responded and disconnected the battery.
