Detective Sgt. Robert Bracken said the purpose wasn't a prank but a decided plan -- committed to paper -- to cause serious damage while on a field trip to the high school. Administrators at School 11 notified police, who said they discovered a mixture of food additives that posed no threat.

The matter was being referred to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office to determine how to deal with the juveniles. All were released to their parents and were suspended for school, police said.
