Come meet the borough's finest from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Rochelle Park Diner, 222 Rochelle Avenue.

The highly successful program is designed for discussing community issues, building relationships – and drinking free coffee.

"No cell phones, devices, or distractions -- just coffee, cops and conversation," said Detective Sgt. Jim DePreta. "Coffee and bagels on us."

The majority of contacts the public has with law enforcement comes during emergencies or emotional situations -- not always the best times for relationship-building, the sergeant said.

"Coffee With A Cop" is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

It removes any barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one conversation -- "one cup at a time,” DePreta said.
