Bra-Holstered Loaded Gun Found In Passaic Sheriff's Sweep

PATERSON, N.J. -- Defendants wanted in connection with sex crimes, kidnappings and assaults -- as well as a car passenger who packed a loaded gun in her bra -- were among dozens of people rounded up by Passaic County sheriff's officers during a recent sweep.

A four-day sweep netted 43 arrests -- all of Paterson residents, said Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, whose officers and detectives teamed up with members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

During one detail, officers stopped a speeding, swerving car on Route 20 near 7th Avenue in Paterson.

The driver gave them several false names before they identified him as 23-year-old Enrique Martinez, the sheriff said.

Martinez, in turned out, owed $11,500 in unpaid child support and had two warrants issued for his arrest, Berdnik said.

Officers also smelled marijuana on his front-seat passenger, 18-year-old Deisha Acevedo, he said.

They called for a female officer, who found a small bag of pot and a .38 caliber Taurus revolver -- loaded with five bullets -- stashed in her bra, the sheriff said.

Acevedo was arrested on drug and weapon charges and Martinez on the warrants.
