Borough Contractor Making Waldwick Sidewalks Accessible Ruptures Gas Line

WALDWICK, N.J. -- (UPDATE) A contractor installing sidewalk accessibility ramps ruptured a gas line Wednesday morning in Waldwick, police said.

Police evacuated two businesses and detoured traffic around the affected area on Hopper Avenue after the borough contractor hit the line at 7:43 a.m., Lt. Thomas Dowling told Daily Voice.

PSE&G checked the two businesses to make sure no gas built up inside, then allowed them to reopen around 11 a.m., Dowling said.No one was injured or required any treatment, the lieutenant said, adding that Hopper Avenue was completely reopened around 12:30 p.m.Borough police and firefighters responded, as did Allendale police.
