Ronnie Mann and his family won $2.1 million in compensatory damages and $150,000 in punitive damages in a civil suit that followed the acquittal of former Park Police Officer Chad Walder of reckless manslaughter in a criminal trial.

Around 10:45 yesterday morning, Mahwah police were called to Halifax Road after a homeowner reported hearing “two loud bangs, possibly gunshots,” a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The woman “reported seeing a man walking through his back yard without a shirt on shortly after hearing the noises,” the source said.
The first officer on the scene found a rear glass doorpane smashed, along with the rock that broke it, he said.
Moments later, Detective Capt. Stephen Jaffe found Mann nearby — in boxer briefs, his hands bleeding from what apparently were glass cuts. The two tussled briefly before Jaffe took him into custody.
Police said he might have been high at the time.
Mann was released on bail pending a hearing on charges of criminal intent to commit burglary, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
