James Walter Burnette, 62, Of Mahwah

MAHWAH, N.J. -- James Walter Burnette, 62, of Mahwah, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Newark and raised in Fair Lawn, he resided in Mahwah since 1989. 

Burnette proudly served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Mahwah. Burnette was employed with the Transportation Security Administration in Newark Airport for 15 years. 

He was the husband of Deborah (Sarka) Burnette;  father of Deborah Burnette, Donna Burnette and Denise Burnette and husband Michael Schwarz; son of Helen (Baker) Masefield and the late James Burnette; brother of William, Mark and Anthony Masefield and Linda, Donald and Timothy Burnette; and son-in-law of Mary Sarka and brother-in-law of Dr. George Sarka. He also is survived by his loyal canine companions, Spenser, Cadbury and Ozzie.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday with military funeral honors at 8 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne R.C. Church, 15-05 St. Anne St., Fair Lawn. Cremation will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
