RAMSEY, N.J. – George Mettler, a longtime resident of Ramsey, died Friday, April 15. He was 77.
He was born in Jersey City and completed all his education in the state, from the Rutherford public school system then on to the Newark College of Engineering and Seton Hall Law School.
He was a member of many clubs and professional organizations, such as the Appalachian Mountain Club, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and also was a member of the Ramsey Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his wife; his son; his daughter and her husband, Michael Stefura; grandson, Jake Stefura; brothers-in-law, John Hayes, and Michael Conway and his wife Mary; godsons, Michael Conway and Kurt Alberts; nephews, Andrew Hayes, Jeffrey Hayes, Gavin Hayes, John Conway; and niece Meaghan Conway.
He was predeceased by his sister, Karen Hayes.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The family will celebrate his life and honor his memory with a 10 a.m. Mass Wednesday at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Appalachian Mountain Club or the Boys Scouts of America.
