Ramsey Residents Say 'No' To Proposed Indoor Shooting Range

RAMSEY, N.J. — Carrie Rapp lives only 200 feet from the site of a proposed indoor shooting range in Ramsey.

She's worried that if the Spring Street facility is approved, the safety of her three kids' health will be compromised. She's concerned that her decreasing property value will continue to drop, despite the recent $3,000 tax spike.

Rapp is concerned for the future of her safe, small town — and it seems she's not the only one.

More than 600 people had signed a petition against the proposed eatery and gun club as of Thursday afternoon. Almost 160 had joined a Facebook group, too.

Pennsylvania gun range safety officer Peter Cuttone told the Planning Board he is looking at renovating the former Liberty Travel building to create a more than 60,000-square-foot firing range, "Screaming Eagle Club," reports.

Cuttone assured the board that the facility would be monitored by 24-hour surveillance, almost 75 employees including full-time and armed security officers at each of the three entrances, the article says.

The range would be unique for its size and scope, complete with 67 firing stalls, a space for retail sales, separate areas for law enforcement and the general public, and a restaurant, the article says.

Still, it's not enough for Christine Dailey.

"I'm so strongly against this gun range and retail outlet, that my husband and I will consider relocation should this happen," she said.

"We live less than a mile from the location. Ramsey and Mahwah are family neighborhood towns. We absolutely do not need or want this in the heart of our towns."
