MAHWAH, N.J. — With his immune system weakened by cancer treatments, a Mahwah man is in dire need of platelets and red blood cell donations.
Friends of Ian Rahimi recently tried to find blood donors as he copes with a gastrointestinal sarcoma tumor, diagnosed in the fall of 2013. Rahimi no longer needs standard blood donations -- he requires red blood cells and platelets, according to his friend Andrew Altadonna.
Rahimi's white blood cell count dropped down to zero, destroying his immune system, during his most recent treatment in early October.
Rahimi, a student at Stevens Institute of Technology, always prioritized his studies and "read textbooks for fun," Altadonna previously told Daily Voice.
TO DONATE: Call the New York Blood Center at 800-933-2566 and mention Rahimi's patient number, 238541.
