“They’re working to get their gardening patch,” said Tricia Patella, troop parent. “They did the police station last year, but this year they wanted to do the front of their own school.”
Heather Campagna, one of the troop leaders, gave pointers and planting tips, making the service project a learning experience.
Principal Cary Chrisomalis thanked the girls, all third-graders, for making the school beautiful.
On Wednesday evening, the girls will leave behind their brown vests when they have their bridging ceremony at Winter’s Park behind Commodore Perry Field on East Ramapo Avenue.
“They’re moving on in their Girl Scout endeavors and are going to become Junior Girl Scout Troop 5985,” Patella said. “They’ll be literally walking over a bridge and, on the other side, each will get her own green sash.”
The troop is also led by Sylvia Ripps.
