Girl Scouts of Northern NJ To Honor Mahwah's Lindsey Inserra-Hughes

MAHWAH, N.J. -- The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey will honor Lindsey Inserra-Hughes with its Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award at its Women of Achievement Gala on Thursday, April 14.

A Mahwah resident, Inserra-Hughes is the vice president of health and wellness of Inserra Supermarkets, which owns 22 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York.

Each year, GSNNJ recognizes female professionals such as Inserra-Hughes who are leaders, innovators and change-makers in their fields, who are exceptional role models.

"The Elinor J. Ferdon Young Woman of Promise Award has special significance to Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey as Mrs. Ferdon is a past board president of the legacy Girl Scout Council of Bergen County and past national president of Girl Scouts of the USA. Mrs. Ferdon is still active globally supporting our future leadership of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides," said Betty Garger, CEO of GSNNJ.

"Inserra-Hughes exemplifies the characteristics of a Girl Scout and is a great role model for girls. She was selected for this award due to the great strides she has made in her professional and philanthropic roles. Being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age, she has taken her personal experience and turned it into a positive way to influence and help others."

Inserra-Hughes spearheads Inserra Supermarkets' increasing health and wellness programming, including the registered dietitians in 10 of its stores. Previously. she was a social worker at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and Hoboken University Medical Center.

Inserra-Hughes was one of the first junior board members of Table-to-Table, a community-based food rescue program in northern New Jersey. She is also a strong advocate for diabetes research and support.

"I applaud the work the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey does on a daily basis in inspiring girls to reach their fullest potential," said Inserra-Hughes. "I am truly honored to receive the Elinor J. Ferdon Award and thank the Girl Scouts for this recognition.
