RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — If Ridgewood dad Jeff Johnson's "Happy Hour" flag is out, you know it's time to party.

"That's the smoke signal," said the father of two, who started his weekly Saturday tradition for friends and neighbors in 2013.

"We just decided to do it one April when the weather got nice and just kept it going."

Johnson lets friends know when and how long they should expect to party on a Facebook page.

Some have gone until 2 a.m. while others have lasted an hour. He provides a couple bottles of wine, otherwise it's BYO.

Johnson says his event has brought him closer to the neighbors.

"We've got an 82-year-old retired airline pilot down the street and a young couple on the corner," he said, looking relaxed on the furniture on his front lawn.

"Whoever shows up shows up."
