The Playaway Launchpad is preloaded with educational apps and doesn't connect to the internet. It's designed to promote digital literacy without fear of exposing children to unwanted and distracting messaging online.

The durable tablets are ad-free and preloaded with learning apps grouped together by subject area, theme, grade level and age. Some apps have themes dedicated to dinosaurs or princesses; others to STEM or language arts.

Each unit is self-contained in a rugged, child-proof case with bumpers. A one-touch reset feature erases previous user data and requires no staff maintenance

The units are designed by Findaway, a provider of digital technology. They partnered with Fingerprint Digital to custom-curate thousands of bestselling and quality-tested apps for children.

Launchpad is on an Android operating system and features a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, external speaker and a universal audio jack.

The Mahwah Library has 20 Launchpads that can be borrowed for a maximum of 14 days; they can't be renewed. The late fee is $1 per day and units must be returned to the Mahwah Library.
