MAHWAH, N.J. — Hayrides, pumpkin painting, a petting zoo and cider doughnuts drew hundreds to Airmont Avenue's Secor Farms on a crisp but sunny weekend.

The Congenital Heart Defect Coalition invited New York and New Jersey families affected by congenital or acquired heart defects to enjoy the farm's large variety of gourds, jack-be-little pumpkins, mums and more on Oct. 17-18.

"Children and parents alike had a great time at painting pumpkins, journeying through the kid-friendly corn mazes, and enjoying some warm apple cider," said the coalition's executive director, Mike Laub.

"The three main pillars of the nonprofit’s mission are focused on uniting and supporting the community, increasing public awareness, and raising money for lifesaving medical research," he said.

Mayor William Laforet brought his grandchildren — Madison, 3 and Jacob, 2 — out to Secor Farms for pumpkin picking and doughnut eating.

The farm is open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of October before closing in November.
