Amateur Radio Operators Bone Up On Emergency Skills In Mahwah

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Bergen County will hold a Field Day for amateur radio operators at the County Police and Fire Academy on Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26.

Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise widely sponsored by IARU (International Amateur Radio Union) regions and member organizations to encourage emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators.

Operations using emergency and alternative power sources are highly encouraged, since electricity and other public infrastructures are often among the first to fail during a natural disaster or severe weather.

BergenSkywarn (FCC Callsign WX2BC) will set up, host and operate a GOTA (Get On The Air) amateur radio station as part of the event.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Bergen County Police and Fire Academy is located at 81 Campgaw Rd.
