RAMSEY, N.J. -- If you think Planet Swirl on E. Main Street in Ramsey is just a place to grab frozen yogurt, think again.
A lot of thought has gone into making the business a destination for families as well as anyone wanting to grab a light bite or dessert treat.
Joell Saeli, who took over ownership of the shop July 31, has changed things up a bit.
As the mom of three, all of which have peanut-allergies, she has chosen to make the business peanut free. (Several of her kids' friends also have the allergy so she thought it made sense.)
"It's important to those who have children to have a safe place to go without the worry of cross contamination," she said.
(Gluten-free and sorbet flavors are also available.)
There will also be new toppings for fall along with new seasonal flavors.
The store, which has been in Ramsey three years, has also been reconfigured with different seating options.
And, starting mid to late September, lunches will be served --think sandwiches, wraps salads and nachos -- Monday through Friday, albeit only through the school year, ending in mid-June.
There's also a private room to accommodate parties of 20-plus or more. "You name it we can host it," said Saeli.
She will also shut down the store to cater to special functions, fundraisers, etc.
"I'm all about about accommodating people," said Saeli who said she puts "TLC" into everything she does.
"We truly care about people and kids," she said. "We want and invite those who want to chat and talk about their kids. We want smiles on everyone's faces."
And that means making a mess. "We understand the messiness of family life," said Saeli. "It's only yogurt. We can clean it up."
Saeli, who lives in Bayonne, said she bought the shop because it's all about family and kids, which is what she's all about. In fact, don't be surprised if you see her children, ages seven and 5-year-old twins around.
Planet Swirl will hold its "Re-Grand" opening 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27 complete with hot fudge brownies, raffles for parties and more.
The shop is located at 119 E. Main St., (201) 818-0404.
