The Cardinal Café had faced a costly relocation that it may not have survived, the story says. The new plans utilize the air rights above the building, and cut the apartment units down from 82 to 44, the story says.

The Cardinal Café, a borough hallmark for decades, serves breakfast and lunch, and does takeout. It's open daily and enjoys a hefty following from Pompton Lakes High School whose students can go off campus for lunch.
