Since the fund’s inception, it has donated more than $3 million to charities throughout the United Staes. Each year, donations are earmarked for medical organizations, as well as a range of charities based on the suggestions and needs of associates of Inserra Supermarkets and its business partners.

The annual event is held in honor of Carl Inserra, who passed away in 1987. He is the brother of Lawrence Inserra Jr., chairman and CEO of Inserra Supermarkets, Marie Inserra and Laura Dupont and father of Carl Jr. The family-owned grocery chain operates 22 ShopRites in New Jersey and New York.

“Carl lived life to the fullest, enjoying every moment,” said Lawrence Inserra Jr. “Carl's love for life and the support he received from his family, friends and associates gave us the inspiration to begin this fundraising event to benefit others in his memory.”

At this year’s outing, attendees will play a round of golf at one of four local courses – Edgewood, White Beeches, Knickerbocker and Hackensack. An evening reception will follow at Seasons in Washington Township. Last year, more than 700 friends, family members and business associates attended the event, which raised more than $325,000.

“We couldn’t have imagined how this event would evolve,” Inserra said. “My brother was with us at the first golf outing, and we were joined by 30 or so friends, family members and business associates. As the event grew, we went to two courses then three and four. The outpouring of support has been nothing short of tremendous, enabling the fund’s contributions to touch the lives of so many.”
