MAHWAH, N.J. — Being well-organized is a trait that Mahwah resident Jean Marie Herron said was passed down through generations in her family.

She recalled the way her father would neatly hang his suit in his closet and ready his outfit for the following day, and the way her grandmother had the coffee pot perfectly timed with the start of any social gathering she hosted.

Herron's genetic disposition is what she said influenced her to launch POSSE Partners, LLC — an organizing company that this month turns 10 years old.

"I saw a lot of systems and solutions growing up in my own house," said Herron, who relies on those of her own to guide her new career as a budding entrepreneur.

With a background in food service management, Herron spearheaded Professional Organizing Solutions Serving Everyone (POSSE) when her two children were starting school at the advice of her husband.

A new-found passion for real estate tilted Herron in a new direction, so she renamed her company "Professional Organizing Solutions Serving Every... Woman Who Wants To Sell Or Dwell."

"Not too many women are home concentrating on organizing skills," said Herron, who takes her skills to conferences around the country. "Everyone's life is super busy and a lot of people don't find this fun."

Herron was voted Professional Organizer of the Year twice by the National Association of Professional Organizers Northern New Jersey Chapter (NAPO-NNJ).

She also co-founded a moving company called "ReadyStageMove."

If Herron could organize her home all day she said she would. Her husband, however, "told me he didn't want to live in a museum," she said. "It's my passion there are a few people like me and they love it — but there are a lot of people who look at getting organized as work and it's the last thing on their mind."

The challenge for Herron was striking a balance between her passion and business ownership.

"The way my clock works is trying to help people by transferring the skills so they can help themselves," she said. "If someone is organized then they can reach their goals."
