MAHWAH, N.J. -- Losing meant winning for associates from the 22 ShopRite stores owned by Mahwah-based Inserra Supermarkets.
A three-month weight-loss competition melted off a combined 400 pounds, with Rommel Raymond “Ray” Mondejar, produce manager of ShopRite of Jersey City, dropping a company-best 65 pounds -- nearly a fifth of what had been his body weight.
Modeled after the popular “Biggest Loser” show, the friendly competition was led by Lindsey Inserra, vice president of corporate health and wellness; Jenna Stock, manager of corporate retail health and wellness; and the entire dietitian team of Inserra Supermarkets.
“Ray’s commitment to leading a healthier lifestyle has been inspiring,” added Lynette Hem-Lee, ShopRite of Jersey City’s registered dietitian. “As a result of his improved overall health, Ray no longer needs to take medications for high cholesterol, and he has reduced his HbA1c level to a value that puts him out of risk of diabetes as well.”
“My doctor is very pleased with my new health outcomes, and I feel more energetic and healthier every day,” Mondejar said. “One of the biggest changes I made was to stop going to the buffet. It wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it! I have continued to lose weight even after the close of the challenge and have now lost a total of 80 pounds. ”
Inserra presented Mondejar with a certificate and prize at a recent ceremony.
